Plantar Fasciitis / Heel Pain
Heel and arch pain often relates to how much load the foot is handling, walking or running volume, ankle mobility and calf or foot strength. Assessment helps identify the factors that are most relevant before deciding on treatment.

Common symptoms
- Pain under the heel or arch of the foot
- Pain with the first steps after waking or after prolonged rest
- Pain that increases with prolonged standing, walking or running
- Calf or foot tightness
What we assess
- Pain location and symptom behaviour
- Ankle mobility and calf flexibility
- Walking, loading pattern and activity volume
- Screening for other causes of heel pain
Rehabilitation approach
- Adjust activity and loading according to symptoms
- Foot, calf and lower-limb mobility and strengthening
- Shockwave or other modalities when clinically appropriate
- Footwear advice and a graded return to walking or running
Seek medical assessment or urgent care when red flags are present
- • Marked swelling, redness, heat or fever
- • Unable to bear weight after an injury
- • Progressive numbness, weakness or severe worsening pain
